Johan Gustav Bellika, NST.
Bellika is associate professor at the Computer Science Department, Faculty of Science at University of Tromsø. He is member of the medical informatics and telemedicine group and involved in several projects within the Tromsø Telemedicine Laboratory.

Biography

Johan Gustav Bellika was born in 1962 in Alta, Norway. He received a MSc degree in Computer Science from the University of Tromsø, Norway, in 1997 and his PhD degree in medical informatics at the Department of Computer Science, University of Tromsø, in collaboration with the Norwegian Centre for Telemedicine in 2006.

He has worked at the Department of Community Medicine and the Faculty of Medicine administration at the University of Tromsø from 1992 to 1997. He has worked with the Norwegian Centre for Telemedicine since 1997 as a software engineer in the area of store-and-forward telemedicine solutions (dermatology, ear-nose-throat, ophthalmology). He has also worked as project leader in a project focusing on trans-institutional access to patient data.

His research interests include mobile software agent systems, multi-agent systems, epidemiology, electronic disease surveillance and medical information retrieval.

Projects

R&D projects participation – Telemedicine

  • Symptom based disease surveillance in the northernmost health region. Studying effects of a peer-to-peer disease surveillance system among general practitioner and institutions directed towards infectious disease prevention (2007-)
  • Common Medication List. System for sharing medication data between health institutions in primary and secondary care. The solution is base on a shared datawarehouse approach (2005-2006)
  • Elvira. Investigated the prerequisites for - and benefits from - interconnecting electronic health record systems at hospitals, casualty departments, GP's offices and home care services (2000-2001)
  • SORIA – Secure Order and Report interchange Architecture. System used to secure communication of sensitive information in a health network. Uses symmetric encryption key technology. Commercialized and currently in use in the Norwegian health network for transfer of all kinds of data between primary and secondary care (1998-2000)
  • BOS. System component for transferring medical information between primary and secondary care. Built for easy integration with third party software to enable communication and for store and forward type of telemedicine (1998-1999)
  • Doris – Diagnostic Order and Report Information System. Acquisition and transmission of multimedia documents as enhanced patient referral documents. Used in Tele-Othorhinolaryngology, teledermatology and transmission of heartsound from kids with heart murmurs. Commercialized and currently in use the Norwegian health network for store and forward telemedicine (1997-1998)

  • PaSent project. The personal health advisor. Providing patient with relevant health information (2001-2005)
  • DiPato project. Distributed Electronic Patient Record systems. Phd. project (2000-2006)
