Biography
Ekeland graduated as a social worker in 1981 and practiced between 1981and 1990. She received an MD in social panning and cultural understanding in 1992 and then worked as a counsellor at the Chief Medical Office in Troms County with a specific responsibility of environmental health reforms. Further as an assistant professor at Finnmark College, department of social work, teaching among others, international welfare models.
Interested in ICT's and the development of health and care services, Ekeland was employed at NST autumn 1996 and has worked as project leader for a number of evaluation projects, for instance teleradiology, teledermatology and ent. Currently, a co-ordinator for research proposals, referee for international journals and project leader. She was visiting scholar at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) 2001/02.
Her research is inspired by Science and Technology Studies (STS), practice studies and medical sociology, and explores relations between deep structural, empiricist-functional and subjectivist-intentional ordering modes, and new comprehensions and constructions of health and health care.
