I-Discare

This experimental system combining medical, information and satellite technologies appears as a valuable tool to support medical services in remote and mobility situations including disaster context.

Project description

I-DISCARE project aims to deploy the system among the users' community. The I-DISCARE system has been designed to deliver supports to mobile medical actors (General Medical practitionner, Search and Rescue Teams, First Medical Aid Teams and Ambulance teams) working in remote area, in a disaster medicine scenario or in a simple mobility context.

These supports allow a better co-ordination of the mobile teams (teams' localisation, patients' data transmission and audio communications between field actors and dispatching console). Using the I-DISCARE Information System, a better patients' medical hand-over becomes possible.

  • Permanent exchanges (voice, medical data, logistics instructions) between field actors and dispatching room consoles' operators (located in their permanent centre)
  • early patient identification
  • early patient's objective medical data available
  • early start of patient's medical file and therefore a better medical and operational traceability
  • early preparation for the patient hospitalisation
  • early "triage" medical process
  • a real time treacability of events concerning the patient is available, the history of the operations is permanently available

Project period

2002 - January 2005
