SUPPRESSED ARGUMENTS FOR THE ADOPTIONS OF TELEMEDICINE SOLUTION

Brattvoll, J. Morten Chief Consultant, Norwegian Centre for Telemedicine

Critical questions before taking telemedicine solutions in use, are often to be seen legitimated through instrumental arguments like increased efficiency, savings through relocating information in stead of patients, and simplify and speeding up the process of sensible treatment. According to western public policy programs, this kind of arguments fulfils the expectations of effective and accurate use of means in efforts to achieve political defined goals.

By comparing experiences from healthcare for elderly people and local business development, this abstract shows the importance of choosing new solutions in order to cope with environmental expectations of modernity, and the institutions needs of shaping their identity. The conclusions enter the debate of legitimating non-instrumental arguments as an important part of organizational change.
