Videoconference link with Archangel

Establishing a 128 kb/s videoconference link to Archangel.

Establishment of a digital two-way sound and image connection between the regional hospitals in Tromsø and Arkhangelsk was one part of the project "Telemedicine in Northwest Russia" in 1996-2001. As a result of joint funding initiatives within the Barents Region, a combined ISDN and satellite connection to Arkhangelsk with a 128 kbit/s transfer rate was set up in April 1999. In 2002 the connection was changed over to only ISDN and two lines / four channels with a 256 kbit/s.

The connection is used for distance learning, providing professional forums, planning and the like. Distance learning between Arkhangelsk and Norway has been a regular feature since 1996. The video conference link is supported by the Barents Secretariat.

The spare capacity of this link is available for other interested parties, and all other parties are welcome to use it. Videoconferences can be a helpful alternative to travelling and other means of communication between companies, public institutions and individuals. The link can be accessed from anywhere in the world with ISDN connection. If you chose to use it, the service will be billed by your telecommunications provider. Please contact Jan Hugo Olsen, phone +47 777014 or Stig Karoliussen, phone +47 77754119 for more information on that.
